Five Ways to LEVEL UP in 2020
January comes with a “new year, new me” mentality that flourishes all month long. Many resolutions lay written in life planners, journals and business plans, but as the month comes to a close, they may find themselves hidden from the sunlight in the same pages that once signified a fresh start. This January, we’re offered a clean slate for a brand new year and a brand new decade. Mirus Promotions is planning for 20/20 vision in 2020, holding close to our mission statement: to be the #1 trusted field marketing agency in the U.S.; to build human connection using transparency and creativity in every interaction.
To set the tone in 2020, we’re focusing on our theme for the first quarter: LEVEL UP.
The start of the new decade is a time for consideration and planning. Consider what goals you want to achieve and how you can level up by planning and implementing action to obtain them. At Mirus, we’re all about progress and intention, so we evaluated ways to level up in your professional and personal life. We landed on our top five favorites for ways to level up in 2020.
Five Ways to LEVEL UP in 2020:
Ditch new year’s resolutions; pick a word for 2020
According to U.S. News & World Report, 80% of new year’s resolutions fail by February. Instead of resolutions, pick a word for 2020 that sets the tone for your goals. It’s more flexible, less daunting and helps you keep your intention to live life moving toward your new goals
Some of our team member’s word of the year:
- Progress
- Intention
- Opportunity
- Adaptability
- Initiative
Walk the talk
Most companies operate on a set of core values. Your leadership team makes efforts to align the company’s activity with its core values. For example, Mirus Promotions offers tuition reimbursement for internal employees who pursue further education in our industry, which aligns with the company’s emphasis on pursuing lifelong growth and learning. Figure out what your personal core values are and focus on actively living those out. We found Brene Brown’s List of Values to be the best place to start.
Maintain a gratitude journal – 10 minute night writes
It’s easy to place a mental emphasis on what you don’t have by sitting and wallowing in day dreams about having it. Maintaining a daily gratitude journal acknowledges all that you have and manifests positivity in every day you get to live. Set a timer for 10 minutes every night and write about what you’re grateful for just before bed. Guaranteed sweet dreams ahead.
Connect with others
Join a new community. Take more active roles in the communities you’re already a part of. If you feel isolated, you won’t be as inclined to pursue your goals than if you felt like you were a part of something bigger. Volunteer at your local animal shelter, sign up for that yoga certification program you’ve always dreamt of completing, or take on additional tasks in the office. Creating space for yourself and nurturing relationships in your desired communities will take you to the next level, no doubt about it
Communities we love
B1G1 – A world full of giving
We work with Buy One Give One, a nonprofit organization, to ensure our business gives back to other nonprofits across the world. With every activation we execute, one social giving impact in return. In December 2019, we executed 778 activations, which means we donated 778 days of reading materials to girls in Cambodia to help prevent and rehabilitate from human trafficking. To date, Mirus has provided more than 5,400 days of reading materials and made approximately 18,000 total global giving impacts.
Coach Karrie with ActionCOACH
Our CEO, Julie Seal-Gaustad works with Coach Karrie with ActionCOACH to push Mirus’ action items forward. “Mirus grew organically until 2015,” said Seal-Gaustad. “I really wanted to take it to the next level but I was unsure of how exactly to do that, so I got connected with ACTIONCoach Karie Kaufmann at the end of 2015. The following year, business doubled. We went from having no employees to six employees, and the following year 11 employees. Within those two years, we doubled in size—we even were named #26 out of 100 fastest growing private companies in San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal in 2018.”
UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center
In August 2019, Mirus celebrated 10 years in business. Our anniversary party raffle benefited the local UCSD Moores cancer center. “Using this opportunity as a platform to raise funds and awareness for such a good cause that is so near and dear to our hearts was my vision for the event,” Seal-Gaustad said. “I’m delighted we were able to successfully raise funds for cancer research, treatment, and support to make a positive impact in people’s lives.”
San Diego State University Aztec Mentor Program
Our CEO is involved with SDSU’s Aztec Mentor Program, offering 1:1 mentorship to marketing majors getting ready to graduate.
Ask yourself, “What does the next level look like?” and plan for it
The unknown is scary, but it doesn’t have to be! Take your brainpower and conceptualize what the next level of your life looks like. Create your plan from the ground up. Decide what your next steps should be. Everyone can dream up goals, but those goals will only be achieved with a plan that outlines how you’re going to get there. Make your plan, then implement
- Brainstorm
- Make a vision board
- Write a letter to your future self in five years, then in 10 years
- Discuss your goals with your circle of trust
Just like our client, White Claw, along with the vast world of Baby Yoda memes, the “I said what I said” mentality is taking over the 2020 social media landscape. Adopt that sense of ferocity in pursuit of your goals, and you’ve already leveled up!
